Aaron Kelly Day celebrated throughout PennsylvaniaPosted by admin in Aaron Kelly, Aaron Kelly American IdolIn a surprise twist, the presentation on Thursday that was scheduled by the Sullivan County Commissioners that would dedicate today, June 4, 2010, as ‘Aaron Kelly Day’ in Sullivan County had an unexpected guest arrive – Aaron Kelly. It also had another surprise twist as Representative Tina Pickett announced that the House passed a resolution on Tuesday that would also proclaim June 4, 2010 as ‘Aaron Kelly Day’ throughout the State of Pennsylvania. Following the 17-year-old Sonestown singer’s journey to the Top 5 during Season 9 on American Idol, the commissioners in Sullivan County began working with representatives from American Idol to coordinate a recognition for Kelly within the county, and to set a date that would be designated for Kelly as well as a date for the presentation. After working with busy schedules, and Kelly’s cancellation of an earlier visit to Sullivan County that was originally planned for June 4, 2010, a date of June 3 for the presentation was set – but without confirmation that Kelly would be available to attend. According to Darla Bortz, Sullivan County Commissioner, the last minute confirmation that Aaron Kelly would be present on June 3 for the presentation was not announced through the media, intentionally. “We were never sure if he would make it here,” said Bortz. Aaron Kelly’s aunt, Kelly Kelly, was at the June 3 presentation and also stated that they were unsure, up until the last minute, if they would make it to Sullivan County. “Aaron just traveled to Disney to do promotional stuff, and we drove here from New York last night,” said Kelly Kelly. “He wanted to be here,” she added.
